What is an Asbestos Survey?
An asbestos survey is a professional inspection to identify whether asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are present in a building. The surveyor visually inspects all accessible areas, takes samples of suspect materials, and sends them to a UKAS-accredited laboratory for analysis.
The results determine what asbestos is present, where it is located, what condition it is in, and what risks it poses. This information is essential for making safe decisions about managing or removing the material.
Types of Asbestos Survey
Management Survey
For occupied buildings where asbestos may be present. Identifies ACMs, assesses condition, and creates a management plan for ongoing compliance.
Refurbishment & Demolition Survey
Required before any building work that disturbs the fabric of pre-2000 buildings. Intrusive survey identifies all ACMs in the work area.
Re-Inspection Survey
Annual or periodic update of existing asbestos registers. Checks condition of known ACMs and identifies any new materials.
